Why This Watch Matters

The Datoluxe is everything that its name implies. This Angelus features a split-number date display and a charming moon-phase indication, all in a 35 mm case with faceted lugs.

The Full Story

Angelus is known for being the first manufacture to offer a split-number date in a wristwatch, which is one of the most notable features in the Datoluxe you see here. Additionally, this watch features a moon-phase aperture, which when paired with the date was very popular in the 1940s and '50s. Furthermore, the 35 mm chrome-plated case was designed with beautifully faceted lugs, which enhance the overall elegance of this dress watch. While we don’t normally recommend a chrome-plated case, we had to make an exception for this one.

What we Love and What You Should Know

The chrome-plated case is in great condition, with no flaking or corrosion. You can see the expected light scratches on the case back but nothing of note. The long faceted lugs really make the 35 mm size wear nicely on the wrist, and the homogeneous patina of the dial adds some extra style to this vintage piece. The complications operate well, and seeing the smiling moon is always a pleasure.
