Why This Watch Matters

If we had to identify the best asset of this Datejust, we would have to go with its white “Buckley” dial that comes with an attractive black handset.

The Full Story

It is generally a good sign when a vintage watch gets a nickname; it becomes a testimony to the love that many vintage enthusiasts have for that specific piece. The “Buckley” dial follows this rule, offering compelling painted indexes and handset never found on “regular” Rolex. The "Buckley" dial comes in a number of colors but we have a weakness for the white one, emphasized by the black hands and printing. And this one has kept all its lume plots where many "Buckley" dials lose them. This Datejust has just the little extra something that makes it even more special.

What we Love and What You Should Know

The white "Buckley" dial is in excellent condition, and does not lack any of the applied lume plots. The patina of the lume is matching the one observed on the uncommon black handset. The crenelated bezel characteristic of the references 1603 and 16030 is well preserved, still showing all its angles. Lastly, the case still shows thick lugs, which explains how nice this Datejust looks on one of our straps.
