Why This Watch Matters

A vintage GMT-Master is a classic, and this example is made even better with nice patina and a great Pepsi bezel.

The Full Story

The GMT-Master was a true innovation introduced by Rolex in 1954, answering the need of many to look at a second timezone rather than doing the math. The reading on the rotating bezel (borrowed from the earlier Turnograph) was a streak of genius and explains the continuous popularity of the GMT-Master since its launch. The 24-hour segmentation and the night/day separation confirms Rolex’s capacity to churn out some of the best tool watches around that were practical, resilient, and looked great.

What we Love and What You Should Know

The case of this GMT-Master 1675 is impressive; it has truly retained its finishing and dimensions on the lugs, which can be somewhat rare for these watches. As it is a late example, the light patina on the dial and indexes makes sense and gives a fresh feel to this 35+ year-old tool watch. The bezel has been replaced but the blue/red contrast is absolutely striking. Lastly, the Jubilee bracelet is not original to the watch; it is actually earlier but it is nicely tight and the clasp closes properly.
