Why This Watch Matters
The Oyster Perpetual Date reference 1501 is no doubt a classic, with a twist with a cool engine-turned bezel.
The Full Story
The Rolex Date model is a bit more under-the-radar than the iconic Datejust models, but it’s not to be underestimated. This reference 1501 is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date with a bit more character, thanks to the engine-turned bezel that adds a bit of pizzazz to the otherwise quietly elegant design. The silver dial is still crisp and has the beautiful sunburst finish that reflects nicely under various lights, adding an extra dimension to the dial. Otherwise, the watch is classic Rolex with silver baton indexes, luminous hands, and of course, the Cyclops window over the date window to seal the deal. If you want a classic silver dial with a little something extra, this watch is not to be missed.
We paired this ref. 1501 with our Reid watch strap in a light green tone we call Prairie for a pop of color.

What We Love And What You Should Know
Things We Love:
- Silver sunburst dial
- Engine-turned bezel
- Nice lume patina
Things To Know:
- Scratches on case
The watch is in overall very good, honest condition. The case is strong with scratches. The back of the lugs show some scratches from strap changes over the years. The case was probably lightly polished. The caseback has a few scratches and small marks.
The silver-tone dial is in overall great condition with a light patina throughout. When looking at the dial under a loupe, the consistent fine patina gives the silver dial almost a textured look. The hands and applied hour markers have developed patina. The lume on the dial has developed patina and is a creamy yellow tone. The lume in the hands has darkened.
The case, dial, movement, and crown are signed. This watch was photographed on a 175mm/6.9inch wrist.
